Thirty plus Scottish journalism vacancies to kick off your 2014

Stuck in the same old routine? Looking to get that first journalism job or progress your veteran career? Or simply looking for a change of scene?

Well here’s more than 30 journalism vacancies in Scotland curated from various online sources to help give you some food for thought.

They include roles ranging from trainees to editors across print, digital and broadcast.

Plus here’s five tips for first time graduates to remember when applying for jobs.

1. Don’t be casual in your emails. You’re not talking to your friends but a prospective employer. Be business like, professional and accurate.

2. Double check your CVs and get someone else to proof read it for errors and potential improvements. Amid a flood of CVs, those with mistakes will most likely be rejected for clean applications.

3. Tailor your application to the job vacancy. It’s worth the extra effort to highlight your relevant skills and interests rather than fire in a general application.

4. Carry out maintenance work across your entire online profile & be active on your blogs, Twitter, facebook, LinkedIn, Google+, Instagram etc. Ask yourself if that profile picture is appropriate? What do those Tweets suggest about your suitability for the role? What does an account which hasn’t been updated for six months say about someone applying for a digital role?

5. Aim to attach both a PDF and a Word version of your application. This will help both the HR departments and those editors looking through scores of applications.

The following 30 or so jobs have closing deadlines at various points across January 2014 and reference the original source sites. Good luck if applying.
