HeadLine: POLICE IDENTIFY HEADLESS BODY

MURDER squad detectives last night identified the torso of a young girl
found washed up on a riverbank.
Sources revealed the remains belonged to that of Amy Anderson, 19, from
the Alexandria area.
The teenager, originally from Dumfries-shire, was reported missing by
friends on May 4, however there was a confirmed sighting of her the
following day.
A post mortem examination has so far failed to pinpoint exactly how she
died.
Det Supt Stephen Ward, who is leading the inquiry, said: “We are
anxious to speak to anyone who knew Amy and can shed any light on her
whereabouts since Saturday.”
The Scottish Daily Mirror can reveal the gruesome discovery was close
to where another teenager was found murdered six years ago.
Caroline Glachan, 14, was found in the River Leven in August 1996. She
had been killed in a frenzied attack.
Her mum Margaret said she was sure the killer – who has not been caught
– still lived in the area.
She said: “I am convinced Caroline must have known her killer and the
chances are that I did too.
“People from here don’t tend to drift away. I am sure he is still
living near here.”
Even an appeal on Crimewatch failed to yield any clues to who her
killer was.
Police said it was still too early to speculate on whether the deaths
could be linked.
And they are also still probing any possible connection to the
discovery of a third body a fortnight ago.
Ex-soldier Daniel Hutcheson’s dismembered body was found under the
Erskine Bridge – three miles from where Amy’s body was found on
Thursday.
The drug addict was found wrapped in a tent dumped in the River Clyde.
Det Supt Stephen Ward said: “So far there is nothing to link Amy’s
death and that of Daniel Hutcheson although we can rule nothing out.
“It’s always possible that we are dealing with a serial killer.
“I don’t think we have one on our hands but we’ve found two torsos in
one division in a short period of time.
“I would ask that the public to continue take common sense measures to
protect themselves.”
Last night Amy’s relatives were being comforted by specially trained
officers.
Underwater search teams are still searching Sandpoint area where the
torso was found for the missing arms, legs and head.
