A SCOTS mum told last night how her terrified daughter begged to get
out of Bali after surviving the island’s bomb blast.
Panic-stricken after the terrorist attack, Seonaid Baird pleaded over
the phone: “Mum, please, we’ve got to get off this island.”
Seonaid was left bloodstained and burned by the force of the blast in
the sunshine resort of Kuta.
The marketing manager had been enjoying a night out with two friends
when the bomb exploded in the Sari nightclub.
She and her pals were on the final day of a 17 day trip to the island
and flew back to London’s Heathrow Airport yesterday.
Her mum, Brenda Spence, said: “She sounded completely terrified.
Traumatised out of her wits. She was very scared by it all.
“They must have been close to the scene of the blast. I don’t know if
they were inside the nightclub.
“It was one of the worst moments of my life.
“That feeling of powerlessness when your daughter has been injured
thousands of miles away and you can’t do anything to help.”
Keen traveller Seonaid, who went to school in Stirling, studied
international terrorism during a degree at Aberdeen university. She now
works for a company in London.
Mrs Spence, 65, from the Highland town of Kinlochleven, said: “I just
want to see her now and to give her a hug.
“I know she has been though hell and back and she’s coming home to
Scotland to be with us.”
