Fiscal in GHB attack

HeadLine: FISCAL IN GHB ATTACK

The Mirror, 27/05/2003, p21
by SHAUN MILNE

A TOP prosecutor last night demanded that ‘date rape’ drug GHB be
banned.
Procurator Fiscal Richard Stott said the drug, a legal anaesthetic
often used by bodybuilders to stimulate muscle hormones, had to be
regulated. He added: “There is no reason to have it out there readily
available.”
His comments came at a fatal accident inquiry into the death of
Geraldine Greeney, 32, from Polbeth, West Lothian. She died in November
2001 after taking the odourless, tasteless drug.
Pathologist Anthony Busuttil told Linlithgow Sheriff Court that GHB
could be bought over the internet and was often used as a date rape
drug as it induced amnesia.
He added: “It also has negative side effects, including seizures and
coma. It can kill.”
Alistair Ramsay, of Scotland Against Drugs, last night backed the
prosecutor’s call and said: “GHB is a very dangerous drug and it is
high time it was made illegal.”
