A FIVE-YEAR-OLD boy was beaten to death in his home in a horrific
Christmas Day tragedy.
Brendan Gorrie was found dead after police burst into the plush block
of Edinburgh flats just before 8.30am yesterday.
They were alerted after stunned neighbours discovered the boy’s mum
Alison lying in a pool of blood in the cobbled courtyard below.
Police called paramedics to the flats in Leith, only to find little
Brendan lying bludgeoned to death.
One line of inquiry being probed by officers is that Brendan’s own
mother attacked him before jumping out of an open window.
Yesterday a police source told the Scottish Daily Mirror: “It was a
particularly horrible discovery for the two officers
involved. This will be something that will be dwelling on their minds
for some time to come.”
It is believed Alison may have snapped under the stress of Christmas.
Friends said she had not worked for some time – but was said to be a
“doting” mother.
She even wrote in a recent personal letter: “We have a son Brendan who
has just turned five – best thing that has ever happened to me.”
Brendan is thought to have been beaten with a blunt instrument.
It is not known where his dad Bruce was at the time of the tragedy,
although it is thought he has been told of his son’s death.
Alison, who met her husband at school in Hamilton, Lanarkshire, was
taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary but her injuries are not believed to
be life-threatening.
A police source said: “She in a serious condition with injuries
consistent of a fall. She has a number of fractures.”
Neighbour Jackie Cameron, 28, said: “I looked out my window to see a
load of paramedics leaning over a body. It was clear to me she wasn’t
moving.”
A spokesman for Lothian and Borders Police said: “We are investigating
the death of a five-year-old boy.
“Police were alerted after a woman was found lying injured on the
pavement outside the house.”
